1994 Vina Valoria Rioja Gran Reserva, Spain
Our Price: $63.00 Sale Price: $56.70

In honor of everything holy, Spanish, and steak related, we bring you a vintage Rioja that will set the bar way too high for future Tempranillos in your life. In fact, you’ll just have to move to Spain to be satisfied after this. But that’s okay, because after tasting Vina Valoria’s, light cherry and dried strawberry sanguine flavors flecked with hints of leather and tobacco, the ticket price will seem like chicken feed. If you don’t mind making other wines on the table feel inadequete, try this beauty with Manchego or prime rib.

2006 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre
Our Price: $22.50 Sale Price: $20.25

This sultry blend of Corvina & Rondinella demands to be sipped fireside - or at least next to an electric log. Flavors of chocolate dipped fig, raspberry, and cinnamon come from a partial ripasso-style treatment, where a third of the grapes are left to dry and develop warm aromatic characteristics reminiscent of baking spices and cocoa. Topped off with a burst of velvety tannins and sparkle of acidity, the Allegrini likes salty cheeses and craves French onion soup and meaty stews.

2006 Pargua II, Chile
Our Price: $22.00 Sale Price: $19.80

Chile is getting very good at producing Cabernet blends on par with the more hyped versions Napa has become famous for. Jean Pascal Lacaze, of Domus Aurea fame, is a rising star whose wines are made in the best traditions of Napa and Bordeaux. A dash of Carmenere and Syrah in his Pargua II let you know it’s Chilean, but it’s the Cabernet that really shines. If you dig the ripe plum, cassis, and tobacco box scents of Oakville Cabs, this delivers all that and more at half the price.

2008 Selbach Riesling Spaetlese, Saar, Mosel, Germany
Our Price: $20.00 Sale Price: $18.00

After tasting more than 100 German and Austrian wines in SF a few months ago, this wine was the hands down winner. I know, I know, rough life! Bright, vibrant, candied lime and tart peach, this has more in common with OG Kabinett than recent examples of Spatlesen. I warn you, if it’s hot, you’ll need two bottles. Chug-O--Lug.

2008 Attila Gere Portugieser, Villany, Hungary
Our Price: $14.50 Sale Price: $13.05

With a name like Attila, you just gotta' be known for something big. Hungarian winemaker Attila Gere, in fact, carries a bit of legend in his wake. A few years ago, his estate Merlot "Kopar" topped Chateau Petrus in a blingy blind tasting in Los Angeles. Evidence of his talent is equally on display in this smooth red-fruited Portugieser. Think of it in the realm of an Oregon Pinot Noir, Austrian Blaufrankisch, or Italian Dolcetto. At 12.5% octane, it's a delicious and pure pour.
