We’ve stocked a few wines in the past that we knew were too good to be true (‘04 Esoterica Touriga, '07 Eaglepoint Coro). In this case, local winemaker Peter Molnar suggested we take a look at this epic mountain Cabernet Sauvignon made by David Ramey. It's quite possibly the best Cabernet ever made in the Red Hills of Lake County. Just north of the Napa Valley in the rugged ridges of the Mayacamas range—2000 ft, red dirt, powerful fruit. With customers like Stag’s Leap and Cakebread, SLV is a primo Cab vineyard. It’s not often that we can offer this caliber of wine for $16. This is an age-worthy mountain Cab that will drink superbly for the next decade. Oddly, the stated 15.45% seems a point high. Our guess is 14.5%. Back up the truck.
